Behind the Airport – Marathon

This area for obvious reason is located behind the Marathon airport. As you venture into this area, you’re greeted by an unmistakable sense of authentic neighborhood charm. It’s the kind of place where neighbors know each other by name and a friendly wave is never far away.

During Halloween, this neighborhood becomes the go-to destination for kids in the Middle Keys as it provides an excellent trick or treating experience.

Streets

A notable aspect of this area is the fact that a number of the streets names pay homage to the various fish species in the keys.

One of the best features of this neighborhood is the layout of streets. The design allows you to explore the surroundings on foot or bike without the need to go onto U.S. 1.

The Homes

The area is home to numerous local families, vacation rentals, and second homes. While some of the properties are waterfront, others are not. There is a mix of ground level homes and stilted homes in the neighborhood. One thing you won’t find in this area are mobile homes.

Boat Ramp

Located on the corner of Aviation Boulevard and Harbor Drive, there is a City owned boat ramp that visitors and residents may use.

Please note recently the City of Marathon has interceded a fee for use of the ramps. See below for fees and rules. Also this boat ramp has been causing traffic issues by the near by streets.

Fees:

$25 Launch/$25 Retrieval (Marathon & Key Colony Beach residents are free, however exemptions may apply)
Trailer Parking $20 per day (No overnight parking) (Marathon & Key Colony Beach residents are free, however exemptions may apply)
No overnight parking
